Like a lot of upholsterers we found ourselves with a lot of useful offcuts of fabric plus a stash of vintage and salvaged fabrics all just lying around the workshop. It seemed daft just to throw perfectly useful pieces of fabric away and not everything especially as not everything is suitable for turning in to scatter cushions. A friend persuaded us to try a drum making lampshade course and that’s when it hit us, this was the perfect way to use up a lot of the scraps we had lying around. Not only did this give us a new product line to explore it gave us something to make if we had an hour left at the end of a day or just as a little wind down project.

I’m not going to go in to the details of how you make drum shades, there are so many videos and social media posts that cover the process, we do, however often have a selection of different sizes and styles of drum lampshades in stock and available to purchase. Most of these are on display at a little shop in Amesbury called One Brown Cow. If you’re in the Stonehenge area why not pop in and take a look, you might even find a few of our small upholstery projects on display and for sale.
